For me, a denim jacket is one of those pieces that is an ideal wardrobe investment. It is the perfect topper that goes with just about everything, it’s versatile, flattering and has that timeless appeal that is universally adored. Not to mention, a denim jacket doesn’t have to cost you a fortune and there are a limitless amount of looks that can be created surrounding this one piece. A denim jacket is something that you don’t have to keep repurchasing every season (I am using the word “have” very lightly here haha). But if you’re like me and want to expand your denim jacket selection and go for a different denim wash, color block denim or go for a different length and fit, then this blog post is for you. When I saw this color block denim jacket on PacSun, the oversized fit and the contrast paneling reminded me of 1990’s vintage pieces, but with a modern take. When I saw that it was paired with a matching white denim skirt, you know I was sold on this denim set.
It is clear that the denim on denim trend has fully made a comeback, which was inspired by the F/W 17 runways where designers like Calvin Klein and Dior endorsed the denim-on-denim trend. It is also apparent that matching two piece sets, whether it’s a jacket and skirt, shorts, or pants has really made its mark as an official summer trend. This denim duo is perfect for summer and it is flattering in all the right places. Opting for two different shades of denim- the color block denim up top and the true white denim on the bottom– help to break up this look. I kept the rest of the outfit the same color palette which also helps things look streamlined and not disheveled. A classic pair of white sneakers and a white bralette where simple accompaniments to this fun, yet understated color block set.
