Skirts are the ultimate feminine piece for women, and with so many options ranging from short to long, colorful to simple, or various cuts and styles, a skirt has the power to instantly elevate your end-of-winter wardrobe and transition your style into spring. I don’t know about you, but for me, it’s impossible to stick to having one skirt in the closet, because there are just so many cuts and styles to choose from. However, for Winter/Spring 2017, it is all about the statement skirt, especially an asymmetrical skirt—the classic cure-all for when you feel like you’re in a wardrobe slump.

What is a statement skirt, you ask? A statement skirt is one that can instantly catch attention and is the focal point of your look. I know it’s hard to stray away from a simple black silhouette, but sometimes adding a pop of color or a bold print in a figure flattering shape can immediately turn a ho-hum outfit around. If you are feeling a little intimidated by this trend right now, don’t be! If you’re looking to opt in for this trend but you’re not sure about how to do so, I definitely recommend something unique but understated. An asymmetrical hemmed skirt is just what you need, as it’s one of the major trends for Spring, and it’s just the right amount of “statement.” Looking slightly off-balance has never been so chic! Striking that perfect off-kilter look with diagonal detailed minis is a fresh way to incorporate a skirt into your wardrobe.

The key to styling this statement skirt is with simple separates to maintain that clean look. My favorite way to style an asymmetrical skirt is displayed in the post today. A fitted knit or turtleneck, sheer tights, and sleek over-the-knee boots is perfect for this time of the year. But when spring finally decides to show up, you can style the skirt with a crisp white shirt, bare legs, and mules or slides. From metallic, patent, tweed, plaid, and flirty ruffled minis to pencil silhouettes, your decision to find the perfect statement skirt can be a little overwhelming. But don’t worry! I’ve selected an assortment of skirts that’ll be sure to stand out. Shop my look and similar looks below:
