Twenty Four and Lessons I’ve Learned

Today is my twenty-fourth birthday! And what a year it has been. I remember thinking on my 22nd birthday “I am finally getting older, but imagine what 24 will feel like?”. Well, I am here to report that 24 does, in fact, feel older, but let me explain. Although I am still in my 20’s, there is a younger feeling associated with being 21, 22, and even 23. I recall a conversation from last week with my older brothers and cousins (I am the youngest of the group), and we discussed the fact that I will be turning 24. Their remarks about this event were something along the lines of “wow you’re getting old!.” And while it does feel good to finally move up in the ranks of being the not so young, younger sister and cousin, there is a small part of me that doesn’t want to leave those very early twenties behind. But despite those feelings, I’ve decided to fully embrace 24, because everyone knows that turning 25 means that you’ve lived a quarter of a century and that my friends is actually old. Needless to say, I have time before I get there, so in the meantime, I thought it would be fun to reflect on some simple life lessons that I’ve learned in my 24 years of life and share the outfit that I’m wearing on the big day.

I know some of these little life lessons may not come as a shock to you, but it’s always nice to refresh your way of thinking and shift your thoughts and perception.

  1. The first and most important lesson is a quote from Wayne Dyer, and it goes “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” In life, what we look at is not nearly as important as how we look at it. Our perceptions of the world are what creates our life experiences. It can be a simple as looking for the good in a situation that may not always appear to be a positive one.
  2. Health is priority number one. Sometimes it’s important to acknowledge what your body is telling you and to slow down. Recently I have been experiencing some health issues, and I knew that I was important to put my health first and attend to those issues, rather than push myself and make matters worse. I know this is small but always listen to your body and fuel it with what it needs.
  3. Follow your heart. I know this may sound cheesy, but I am a firm believer of this when navigating life, careers, friendships, you name it. Do not let outside opinions or pessimists sway you from doing what you believe to be what’s best for you.
  4. Do what makes you happy. This has been a lesson that I have stuck to this year. When I say this, I am not suggesting that other people’s measures don’t matter-they do. I care deeply about what my friends and family think and feel, for example. Their happiness adds to mine, just like their unhappiness detracts from it. But my happiness is not dependent on anything they say or do. The point is: what other people think of us is never more important than what we think of us. If we go through life living it for everyone else, well then we are not truly living life.

Aries season is upon us! We love to be number one and share our passions, motivations and be a confident leader. After all, it is my birthday. So being number one for the day is acceptible, right? I wanted to wear a head-to-toe look from my favorite brand of all time, Ralph Lauren, and feel elegant in all white. I have been eyeing this sweater and these pants ever since I saw them at the Ralph Lauren mansion. A classic creamy white pair of pants is a timless staple, and I know I will be stuyling them with several looks this spring. I added a pop of color with the blue and white stripped button down, and accessorized with my new favorite Dooney & Bourke bag. The natural tone of the bag complimented the look perfectly!

In a way, I believe that Liv For Luxury is a platform for me to carry out the Aries ways about myself! I wanted to share this post as a milestone and a reminder to keep a positive headspace and energy. I am hopeful that when I look back on this post in a year, I will be practicing these little life lessons and adding a few new additions to the list. I hope that some of you took away sometihng from this post and I can’t express how thankful I am for all of you. I appreciate your thoughtful birthday wishes. I am spending the weekend with family and friends in Rhode Island, for a quiet and relaxing birthday weekend.

Thank you again!

Love,
Liv xx
